Gene Wilder Tops The Documentary Box Office In Seventh Weekend
Multiple documentaries continue to show their legs while hit new nonfictions releases are few and far between.
For the second time in its seven weeks of release, Remembering Gene Wilder topped the documentary box office chart, with a gross of $4,740. That’s not a lot of money — in fact, it’s the film’s second lowest take yet — but thanks to a lack of major new documentary releases, it has taken the crown again. Right behind it, another profile of a late celebrity continued to show its legs: Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus increased its weekend gross by about 140% to come in second place among nonfiction releases. Only three other documentaries reported weekend grosses over the last few days, and they’re also 2024 mainstays: High & Low - John Galliano, Ennio, and They Shot the Piano Player.
